New trailer for alien abduction movie ‘Extraterrestrial’

A new sci-fi film attempts to depict the horror of alien abductions.

The latest offering from filmmaking duo the Vicious Brothers, Extraterrestrial “tells the story of a group of friends who take a weekend away to a woodland cabin – where they discover a crashed alien spacecraft,” describes MoviePilot. “The experience is just the beginning of a series of horrific extraterrestrial activity.”

Entertainment Weekly details that the film stars Brittany Allen (The Rocker), Freddie Stroma (the Harry Potter franchise), Jesse Moss (Tucker & Dale vs. Evil), Anja Savcic (I Love You, Beth Cooper), Melanie Papalia (Smiley), and Gil Bellows (The Shawshank Redemption, Ally McBeal). The film was directed by Colin Minihan, one half of the Vicious Brothers.

The recently released trailer reveals some overt nods to Fire in the Sky. But, in addition to the horror movie stereotype of terrible things happening to kids at a cabin in the woods, the movie also includes a UFO stereotype of a crazy guy, played by Michael Ironside, who knows all about the government’s secret treaty with extraterrestrials. The film’s poster also employs the use of the cliche notion of anal probing as part of its marketing by including the hashtag “#GetProbed.”

This movie premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival in April 2014, and IFC Midnight has since acquired the rights to the film.

Extraterrestrial will debut on VOD on October 17, and it arrives in select theaters on November 21.
