Stephen Hawking to speak at ASU
The Origins Project at Arizona State University is presenting a science and culture festival at which famed astrophysicist Stephen Hawking will be delivering a lecture. The Origins Project’s website describes the festival as “a celebration of the interface between science, the humanities, and the fine arts.”
The festival will also feature the “Dear Aliens” contest award ceremony. This contest, launched by Hawking’s daughter Lucy, asked students to submit answers to the following question: If you had to speak for humanity, what would you say? Submissions will be reviewed by “a panel of alien experts made up of writers, scientists, and scholars,” and the winners will be announced at the awards ceremony, which is open to the public. Contest winners will have their messages broadcast into space at the event.
The Origins Project Science & Culture Festival takes place at various locations on ASU’s Tempe campus from April 7 through April 11.
