UFO photo captured over San Diego

Several San Diego residents reported spotting mysterious lights on Tuesday night, and one witness was able to snap a picture.

According to NBC 7 San Diego, viewer Larry Fox sent them a picture of an odd light he spotted in the night sky. NBC 7 described the picture as “a string of multicolored lights.”

Fox reported that he was in his backyard when he saw the strange light to the southwest. He says he ruled out a drone or a plane because the light was stationary.

“It was a series of flashing lights,” he told NBC 7. “If it was a plane, it would have moved.”

NBC 7 reported that Fox described the lights as “red, blue and green,” and that the lights “kept flashing and changing colors.”

Apparently, Fox was not the only one to see the lights. NBC 7 says they heard from several other viewers who saw them, and even one of their own photographers says he saw the lights.

Although the image shows what appears to be multiple lights, or one long illuminated streak, it is very similar to pictures of a single point of light that looks like it is moving due to camera shake. At night cameras will keep the aperture open longer in order to capture more light. If the camera is moved during this time, the image will create a motion blur effect.

Often bright stars are photographed and mistaken as UFOs due to this effect.

As for the colors, stars will often look like they blink and change colors due to the atmosphere, and if the star is closer to the horizon, then there is more atmosphere to look through, and in a big city, there is also pollution.

In 2013, a resident of the town of Oshawa in Ontario, Canada took this UFO picture (below) of what he thought was a UFO. He says it was a bright point of light, but the object looks like a streak because of camera shake.

The biggest culprit when it comes to celestial objects being mistaken for UFOs is Venus. It may seem odd, but Venus is remarkably bright in the night sky, and it is easy to mistake it for something else. According to EarthSky.org, it is in the night sky this month, and very bright. Their site says this month Venus is the “brightest planet and third-brightest object in the sky after the sun and moon – climbs higher up at dusk, and stays out later after dark, than it did in March 2015.”

So was it Venus that was captured in this photograph in San Diego? It’s possible. But then again, perhaps there is another picture out there that can prove it is something much more mysterious.

  1. One also thing to note Alejandro Rojas

Venus does not move across the sky

The round white lights that do move are UFO’s – not stars lol !

Please do not get confused between star to a actual moving white light UFO

As stated even moving bright objects at night will not illustatrate their true form due to a shake

Tripod is recommended to use to capture it’s natural state of roundness in light – not a squiggle

Please do not dismiss all folks accounts of being JUST Venus

Sad you were NOT there to see Amigo

  2. Great article! It’s good to see some one offering theories of what it may be rather then just jumping to the conclusion that is a ufo without question. I recently only just came across this site but I will most definiatly be a return reader.

  3. I have an identical picture which I shot from Altadena. It’s a single point of light, like a star. He has his zoom set to the max as I did, so the camera shake makes it look like a glow worm.

I shot some video from my Canon camera, shows it much better. It was a star that twinkled a bit too much, and had constantly changing colors, red mostly, but green and bright white. At first I thought it was wingtip lights on an airliner, but then I realized it was really far out (I saw a jet flying way underneath it.
Tell me how I can get the video to you and I’ll up load. This was April 28th, 2015 in Southern California.

  4. Mars. I saw it and according to your skymap. it was exactly where you have Mars in relation to the Moon. It was there at 8:30 and 10pm.

  5. In April 29, 2015 on 10:25 p.m. I witnessed a UFO sighting outside of my house in Narional City. When I was on my telescope I notice something that caught my attention on the top right corner of my eye. And once I saw it, I thought that I was going crazy. But no, my brother and I witnessed a boomerang shaped ship, it’s had big round dim lights and it made no noise. I am trying to get the word out there.

  6. After more research it could not have been Mars. Planets don’t twinkle and appear to be strobing. If it was a craft of some kind it was enormous. At 8 it was exactly or close to where Mars is in relation to the moon. As I stated it was last viewed at 10pm by me Could have been Antares perhaps?

  7. In the video from NBC7 the lights in the sky almost seem to directly match the lights on the ground directly below them. This seems to be some kind of reflection from the ground lights. The question is now, how could something in the sky reflect the ground lights so clearly? Were these lights seen by naked eye?

  8. I have the same pic from April 23, 2012 in Benton City, Wa I have 2 pics within seconds – one shows the whole thing the other one shows it moving – I tried to report to openminds website but 404contact form not working. The object is all white in my pics but exactly the same structure

  9. i posted an earlier wrong view. It was most definitely NOT a planet. EYEWITNESS to the naked eye it was a brilliant squiggle shaped object strobing multi colors stationary for more than 2 hours. I also saw a ‘dot light” that appeared to move close than away from the main object. It was brighter than anything in the clear night sky and in totality was about the size of a penny held at arm’s length. I believe there is an earthly explanation for this celestial display but please know I have studied there is something more than us since 1969 and I can tell you I do not know what it was. I live 10 miles from Palomar Observatory. I spent over 30 minutes going to sky maps and so forth came away empty as to what I was seeing. It was larger and more dynamic than Antares in our skies here in North County San Diego

  10. one last note. I saw one U tube video if you look closely at the bobbing blue circular light towards middle of viewing in the center of the blue orb is a black uneven vertical line, that, was the basic outline of whatever was in the sky.It was not circular light mass as is stars but very distinct elongated shape which caught my attention in the first place prompting what is that?

  11. Exactly Billy. Did you too see the anomaly? Did you find it as baffling as me? Any insights as to what it could have been or was your remark for merely for arguments sake? Unfortunately my neighbor next door is a professional photog and sky buff so he has a telescope with camera. Because it was around 9PM when I first saw it, I felt it was too late in the evening to call him to come out and document the event. If there is a next time we plan on capturing images. The camera on my device when pointed to the object was not powerful enough to capture anything. Google sky map was not helpful either. Palomar observatory only has an info line. So I keep looking every night waiting for a repeat performance so it can be documented with images by a professional grade telescope with camera.

  12. If your remark was an observation you are 100% correct. If it was a craft of some kind and I am not saying it was, you rightly pointed out I was not on board. Taking it a step further if it was a craft I am not saying it was of otherworldly origin either. Clearly technology dictates, one must think twice before avowing anything aerial is of non human origin.

  13. In order to more fully understand what I am seeing in the night sky I downloaded Stellarium. Hopefully this will allow me to more confidently define celestial events and their origins.

  14. 9:22Pm 5/2/2015 Facing west slightly southeast of where Saturn is overhead is where the object was at around this time Tuesday. Relative to Saturn tonight what I saw was 3x’s longer overall and stationary. It was closer to the earth than far off Saturn with all other characteristics I have already shared. It was too large to have been Antares.
