New Jersey woman spots UFO in back yard

A New Jersey witness at Washington Township reported a bright orange, bell-shaped UFO, in her back yard that quickly moved into the sky and disappeared, according to testimony in Case 59379 from the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON) witness reporting database.

The witness was outside at 8:30 p.m. on August 14, 2014, as a storm was approaching from the northwest when the object was first seen.

“I walked out my back door and picked a tomato off a patio plant,” the witness stated. “I then walked to the fence on my right and tossed the tomato over it – for the birds. When I turned around, I saw a large orange/red glowing object that reminded me of a burning ember from a fire – very bright.”

The witness described the object’s movement.

“It came from over the top of the neighbor’s lower roof (which is probably 10 feet high), moving steadily toward the southeast through our backyard. It seemed to move right through trees/leaves – if it navigated around them, I didn’t notice that.”

The witness described the object.

“There was no sound, no smell, no anything. It appeared to be translucent with fire inside of it (or like churning gas), and at some point I saw a clear edge to it. I remember thinking I could see through it, if it weren’t for all that fire inside. When I say it looked like a jellyfish, it was the shape of a contracted, bell-shaped jellyfish.”

The object was low to the ground.

“It was approximately six feet off the ground moving through the backyard and I was only about 10 feet from it at one point. I estimate the size to be eight feet tall by five feet wide. It moved at a pace like a fast walk, but steady.”

The witness then called to her husband to come out and see the object.

“My husband only saw the bright orange glow, not the object itself, because there were trees blocking his view of it by the time he got there.”

The witness tried to keep the object in view.

“Knowing I would lose sight of it on that side, I ran to the other side of the backyard (where I had thrown the tomato over the fence). I was expecting to see it clear the front of the house, low to the ground like I just saw. I saw it in the sky over the houses across the street, climbing higher in the sky – it must have climbed pretty fast because it was only about six feet off the ground in the backyard. Now it was way above the trees on the other side of the street.”

The witnesses attempted to get a photograph of the object but were blocked by trees.

“By the time I ran out front (only a matter of seconds), it was now in the southwest sky and very high up, where planes fly. We continued to watch it climb higher and higher until it was a bright glowing orange dot and then it disappeared. When I saw it, I wasn’t scared – more amazed and curious than anything.”

The witness has ruled out Chinese lanterns.

“I looked at those memory lanterns people are sending up and while the shape was similar, the glowing intense color and size are all wrong. If it was a man-made article, like one of those lanterns, it would have gotten caught on something (trees, limbs, bushes, fences) as it passed through the yard. Our next door neighbor was driving toward home at that time and saw a bright orange glow coming from our backyards.”

  1. i saw a triangular dark what I categorize as a craft floating across I684 in Katonah NY in 1981 on my way home from work in White Plains NY. Cars had pulled over on the side of the road, so I pulled up behind the last cAR, NOT EVEN KNOWING WHAT WAS GOING ON. Then I see this huge dark think with lights on the eddges floating pretty low in the sky it was late dusk. The thing was huge and made absolutley no noise. I was amazed it could stay aloft there being no propulsion sound at all. It went from the northwest southeasterly and very slowly like it didm’t mind being observed by the many people from the cars lining the sides of I684. I never saw anything like that before or after. I did see circular bright balls 2 of them dart across the road by my house years later walking with my son then 14 years old so 14 years ago, but have no idea what they were could have been natural phenomenon but not this trianglular craft in 1981. Did read a story by a boy who saw a triangle like mine, say 10 years ago, who described the underside of the triangle craft, and it hit a vein in me. The boy recalled trying to see the kind of portal on the underside of the triangle but he could not clearly distinguish one just a wavy kind of film like when heat rises up off a hot pavement, that is what I saw too. I know what I saw…so observations by others are not confirmation. as much as recognition of the fact that triangular UFO’s are a prevalent kind of UFO.

  2. Last summer, I saw the very same shaped and colored object you described, and I reported it to MUFON. Now, here it is fall of 2014, and on October 2nd, at 4:17 am, I saw glowing orange sphere this time, just above the tree tops in my neighbors back yard. It made no sound whatsoever, it hovered for a few seconds, then shot straight up and disappeared. What makes this so compelling is, that6 years ago, my neighbors nieces were visiting him, and the oldest one came in yelling “Uncle John, you have to see this thing in the yard!”, he ran to look and here was this huge sphere shaped orange object, hovering over their garage. So it looks like a repeat!

I have had at least 4-5 sightings of this type over the last few years, and no, they were not those Chinese lanterns. I make it a point to keep my eye on the sky, night or day. I hope we can eventually find out what this is all about.

  3. Hi Lisa, are you in the South Jersey area? You know, I naturally would look to sky if I were looking for UFOs! And geez, here was one in my back yard! I think we miss a lot, because we don’t “look” and take it all in. Very strange. I’m now a believer – never really gave it much thought before.

  4. I specifically look for “glowing ember” ufo stories because I also have a story. It stands out as the most amazing and unexplainable event of my life. There were 3 other witnesses. It happened in August of 2003, when Mars was close to Earth (but did not seem to have any correlation), in Highland CA, at dusk.
We were standing in the driveway of a friend living at Baseline and McKinley, about to open our first beers, when we noticed that the high school on the street north of us appeared to be on fire. What we saw was what looked like reflections of flames on a wall alongside the high school building, but we could not see the building.itself. We heard sirens and turned toward the south, beyond Baseline Avenue….
Looking southeast, toward the treeline along the farthest horizon, I saw an object coming towards us. It was boucing like a baloon, but so quickly that it was upon us in what I think was about 30-60 seconds. It was hard to gauge time because the image was so bizarre that it was meserizing. In a way it seemed like time stood still. Nobody spoke or looked away until it was gone.
I consider it a UFO in that it was unidentified and flying, but it was unlike what I think of normally to be one.It did not resemble a spaceship or vehicle. It looked like a charcoal briquet, flat dark gray-black .with four rounded corners. The center resembled the end of a burning cigarette, glowing embers. There were no other features I could see. I remember being reminded of a piece of blackened paper that has broken away from a campfire and it seemed flat, like I was watching the image on a movie screen. It made no sound and I could not tell its size.My initial thought was that it was some effect of bent light waves or something like that.
The object was upon us and now it hovered above the big empty field next door to my friend’s house (east). It ascended, going higher and higher until the gray-black had blended into the darkening sky, and only the glowing ember part was visible, such that it looked like a burning cigarette in the dark.I thought that it sputtered and went out. My friend thought it had shot away.
Once my attention was back to my three astounded friends, I noticed there was no longer any sign of fire from the high school. Nor was there any mention of any of it the next day. Looking for any possible explanation, we noticed it had come from the direction of the Norton AFB. Was it man made? Why did it come from miles away, to hover above us?
Finally, another friend descibed the same thing, same time of month, in Crescent City, CA.
