Former Air Force officer claims UFOs were cover-up in Mirage Men film

A former Air Force officer claims UFOs were used as a cover-up in the new UFO documentary Mirage Men. The film which originally premiered at select film festivals in June of last year will be available to rent and stream online beginning March 27th.

The movie is based off of the 2010 book Mirage Men: An Adventure into Paranoia, Espionage, Psychological Warfare, and UFOs by Mark Pilkington, a British journalist and filmmaker. The book asserts that the U.S. military was responsible for planting stories about UFOs to the public in order to conceal secret military projects.

The film centers around Richard Doty, a former Air Force officer who served in the Office of Special Investigation in the 1980s. Doty claims that he fed disinformation about UFOs in order to keep the public from discovering classified secret projects. He also alleges that the government has had contact with extraterrestrial civilizations and that UFOs are extraterrestrial crafts. His alleged disinformation campaign came at the cost of UFO researcher Paul Bennewitz, that account can be found in the October/November 2013 issue of Open Minds magazine. describes:

How the US government created a myth that took over the world: UFOs: weapons of mass deception… For over 60 years teams within the US Air Force and Intelligence services exploited and manipulated beliefs about UFOs and ET visitations as part of their counterintelligence programmes. In doing so they spawned a mythology so powerful that it captivated and warped many brilliant minds, including several of their own. Now, for the first time, some of those behind these operations, and their victims, speak out, revealing a true story that is part Manchurian Candidate and part Close Encounters of the Third Kind.

Mirage Men

How the US government created a myth that took over the world.

ET visitors… crashed UFOs… back-engineered alien technology… the government cover-up of a secret that would change the world as we know it…

These are the core elements of the modern UFO mythology, a story that has captivated farmers, princes and generals for generations, and shows no sign of loosening its grip on the popular imagination.

But what if, instead of covering up the UFO story, elements in the US military had actively encouraged it as part of their Cold War counterintelligence arsenal – manufacturing the myth of the UFO as a powerful weapon of mass deception and the perfect cover for all manner of clandestine technologies and operations.

Now, for the first time, some of those whose actions have directly shaped the UFO mythology, and some of their victims, tell their stories, revealing a surreal disturbing and sometimes tragic sequence of events that is part Manchurian Candidate and part Close Encounters of the Third Kind.

Mirage Men draws viewers into a saucer-shaped hall of mirrors, a shadow-world where every lie contains elements of the truth, and the truth is far stranger than the UFO believers, or their detractors, would have you believe.

  1. I just watched the 2013 video documentary titled Mirage Men. …very well made… the sound effects and music was truly amazing and creepy too… but not overloading the serious nature of this documentary. Excellent! Far far better than Alien UFO hype and hunter “sighting crap” on History/Science channel. I give it a 10 highest rating for exposing how many UFO fictions are made “fact” or “reality” even to experts and researchers.

Why haven’t you interviewed Pilkington and Denning???

This is a “must see” for anyone interested in ET or UFO or military PSYOPS. Anything UFO/ET nearby military installations screams PSYOPS. You don’t think this is part of a “perfect cover” to help maintain Top Secret weapons delivery programs???

My opinion… Science Fiction has become a serious mental illness within our American Movie/Cable Visual Programming societal dominance “Matrix” and millions of people lose “contact” with reality and hard science and become religious possibility. Even the Science Channel and History Channel produce INSANE FAKE science “possibility” and history fantasy.

My religious belief is life may not have started on planet earth, and I believe intelligent life far beyond human ability is found elsewhere in the universe. IF intelligent life far more advanced than humans is nearby… within a very few light years… then it’s possible that life form may have already had contact with our planet. Our Creator?

I think the genetic code has answers, but I realize this is a religious belief totally unproven and unknown and UNSCIENTIFIC for now… it’s my SciFic “religious viewpoint”.

I imagine humanity will send our earthly genetic codes using robotics to seed the nearby “life support” planets IF intelligent life is not on those planets already. This will begin to happen within a few thousand years or less beyond our solar system in my religious opinion… humans will become ET “creator gods” on other planets by seeding our planet’s genetic codes.

I do not think it’s possible for living humans to travel and survive light years of space travel beyond our solar system. When someone believes in Warping Space beyond the speed of light (Star Trek) or even traveling light years near the speed of light in living human bodies, I find it to be the drivel of lunacy and a marker for mental illness and religious fanaticism.

  2. Thanks *very much* for that link, as I was searching your website trying to find if this existed. Even used your search engine & still could not locate it when I searched Pilkington or Mirage Men… bizarre. I certainly recommend making this interview a very easily found and highlighted interview for your website, as I think Mirage Men is the best UFO-ET PSYOPS documentary ever made.

Btw, you need to get editorial control over your own show (or commentary) on Science or History Channel and be the “ultimate” ET-UFO skeptic over most of the crap that passes for “good” UFO sightings or phenomena. They “burned” your normally excellent skeptical insight on the 4 episodes of Uncovering Aliens… I just KNOW you can’t believe that BS that aired on those episodes. You are waayyy better than that.

  3. Well, this story was around for a very long time, but Hollywood was adamant about not producing a film on it since the early 1990s, because obviously it would undercut all the $billions it has made on the fraud that UFOs are from another planet, and make guys like Spielberg and Lucas look like morons, along with the jerks that make $millions on the Men in Black comedy series, and people like Tom Cruise and John Travolta and all the other mentally ill people who believe in Scientology, which is based upon earth having allegedly been colonized by “aliens spirits” tens of thousands of years ago– created by a sociopath, L. Ron Hubbard, who just happened to be an okay melodramatic sci-fi pulp writer. ((If you’re interested, read the book, Bare-faced Messiah, by the prize-winning British journalist, Russell Miller)

Of course, with any logical, rational mind, it didn’t take much to put the pieces together of the UFO fraud. The problem is that a lot of real damage has been done to a lot of real people because of this insanity. And that includes ranchers and their cattle out in the west who have been abused by microwave EMR weaponry the U.S. military has experimented with and covered up as an alleged connection to UFOs to escape accountability.

Most people don’t give a damn about the truth, because it’s easier not to confront it. But aside from wasting a lot of everyone’s time, and exposing the U.S. military and the U.S. CIA (which was also involved and also broke U.S. laws in the process) for what they really are, and not what the media and Hollywood would like you to believe they are, many American citizens have been physically hurt by these U.S. military flying disc prototypes, including a “UFO” incident that took place in Texas near a U.S. Air Force base in 1980– which caused real radiation burns to Betty Cash, Vickie Landrum and her grandson, Colby. All of whom suffered serious health complications, including loss of sight and cancer as a result.

But Hollywood would never touch that story with a ten-foot pole. And when Betty Cash and Vickie Landrum attempted to sue the U.S. government for its involvement in their injuries, the U.S. military denied any involvement, despite there being around 20 unmarked helicopters escorting the experimental “UFO” on its way back to the nearby Air Force base.

The reason why all of this has relevance today is because if you don’t confront fraud, and fraudulent behavior from powerful groups like the U.S. military, they will continue to abuse their power, and, for example, get us into wars that we have no business becoming involved in.

And which of course just distracts everyone from focusing on solving major economic and health-related problems right here at home.

The UFO concept may all be one big game to Hollywood and the U.S. media, but unfortunately the U.S. public suffers from the pathetic cottage industry of entertainment that has evolved out of this fraud.
