UFO videos over the English town of Derby gaining popularity
The town of Derby in England’s Derbyshire County has repeatedly garnered media attention for UFO videos over the years. Many are suspected to be Chinese lanterns, however some remain unexplained.
The most recent video to get some media hype is one taken over Derby and posted to a YouTube account called Galactic Guru. This video was published and allegedly filmed on August 12, 2013. The International Business Times in the UK posted the video calling the object in the video “a glowing disc-shaped Unidentified Flying Object (UFO).” The Galactic Guru has posted quite a few alleged UFO videos over Derby.
The video in the International Business Times (seen above) shows a bright light that seems to hover for a few minutes before slowly moving down into the clouds. Galactic Guru posted another video that day of a second object that remains hovering in the sky for several minutes, and appears to have blinking lights.
KpopStarz, a Korean pop entertainment news website, also posted the first video along with a couple of other earlier UFO videos in Derby from 2009, although the second is not really a UFO video. The first video shows bright lights in the night sky slowly floating along.
The second is of Chinese lanterns being launched. The description reads:
“I lit some chinese lanterns over Derby over 2 weeks ago in my area and The Derby Evening Telegraph has been printing this story for nearly two weeks,Have you got no other news to print!!!they are chinese lanterns!! (sic)”
Indeed, the Derby Telegraph did run a story on unexplained sightings of “orange lights” in October of 2009. In the story, they had even spoken to the Ministry of Defense (MoD) who told them: “The MoD examines reports solely to establish whether UK airspace may have been compromised by hostile or unauthorised military activity. Unless there is evidence of a potential threat, there is no attempt to identify the nature of each sighting reported.”
The Derby Telegraph says they also checked with a local airport official who said there had been no flights in the areas of the sightings, and declared the sightings as yet unexplained. However, they did not consider Chinese lanterns as a possibility.
The Derby Telegraph ran a subsequent story in June of 2013, soon after the British government released their last batch of MoD UFO files. This story reviews some of the UFO cases in the Derbyshire area from the UK UFO files, including a woman who spotted nine orange lights in 2009.
The witness told the MoD:
At first I thought it was an aeroplane with a different coloured light (we live on a flight path for Manchester Airport), but then one after the other more and more lights came in view. I went outside and saw a neighbour who was out walking her dog, and she was as stunned as I was.
While orange lights in the night sky often turn out to be Chinese lanterns, some of Galactic Guru’s Derby UFO videos are a bit more mysterious. Guru believes he may be capturing videos of what he calls “our star family,” others have suggested he is capturing Chinese lanterns, the planet Venus, or drones. Take a look for yourself and let us know what you think.
