University’s observatory searching for extraterrestrial life

Mainstream science seems to be shifting its view, taking the search for extraterrestrial life more seriously. Researchers at major universities around the globe are actively searching for life on other planets, including Phil Langill from the University of Calgary’s department of Physics and Astronomy. He will be speaking about the search for extraterrestrial life at the Rothney Astronomical Observatory’s open house Saturday, February 12, where he will discuss how technology now enables researchers to identify planets outside our solar system and identify planets that might be good candidates for supporting life.

In response to NASA’s recent discovery of microbes capable of modifying their DNA to live in arsenic-heavy environments, Langill states that scientists need to start “looking in other places and we have got to be broader in our search because we don’t understand completely.”
