The SETI Institute (Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence) has been scanning the skies for more than fifty years searching for evidence of extraterrestrial life by using radio telescopes. But funding issues have put their search on hold. According to Discovery News, budget cutbacks by two of SETI’s key donors—the State of California and the National Science Foundation—have forced the institute to suspend operations of its Allen Telescope Array in California.

Allen Telescope Array operations were suspended as of April 15, and its future is uncertain.
