The author of a recent article published on Science and Religion Today asserts that humans are less afraid of meeting extraterrestrials than in the past. Albert Harrison, an emeritus professor of psychology at the University of California, Davis, believes that there is an “anything can happen” mentality in Western society, thanks to ever-developing science and technology. Harrison points out that “we live in a culture where television programs, books, video games, toys, sweatshirts, and so much more encourage us to think about ET,” and it is the constant exposure to these things that open people’s minds to the possibility of extraterrestrial life.

Harrison postulates that, when extraterrestrial life is discovered, most people will take the news “with a grain of salt,” be excited, and hunger for additional information.
